Intentional Community

What is it?

Some of us are drawn to the idea of living in an intentional community. By this we mean a group of people who live in a certain region (a neighborhood or a village), share values, and cooperate to mutually help each other to develop.

Members of this community pool their efforts and resources to create a communal and interconnected way of life, by renting and sharing a common space for activities, and funding together various community projects. Members actively participate in shaping the community’s values, culture, and day-to-day operations.

Activities

Here are some examples of shared activities that are organized in such a community:

  • Eating dinner after preparing it together
  • Learning, sharing skills, and practicing together
  • Workshops for personal and spiritual development and meditation, to help members achieve more of their potential
  • Physical training and sport games
  • Going to nature for hikes, trips, and camping
  • Going to a spa, hot springs, the beach
  • Decorating the community center
  • Creating and maintaining a community garden, including growing some food there
  • Creating art together, including visual art and crafts, music, and theater
  • Organizing cooperative childcare, homeschooling, unschooling, and after-school programs
  • Celebrating special occasions
  • Outreach projects to provide service outside the community
