When a person goes to a gym for weight training, he or she applies the force of their muscle against the resistance of the weight. This action may cause some discomfort. In fact, for adding muscle mass (hypertrophy), it is necessary to cause minor tears in the muscle tissue, which are then healed in order to form a stronger and larger muscle.
People sometimes willingly take challenges upon themselves. Some people choose to climb a high mountain. Others choose to run a marathon or participate in some competition. The experience may involve some discomfort and pain, even harsh ones, so why do they choose to do it? Because they consider the discomfort a price worth paying for a variety of benefits, such as: an increased sense of ability, a stronger stamina and resilience, a sense of satisfaction and even elation resulting from having overcome difficult obstacles.
In the realm of art, self-imposed restrictions can lead to profound creativity and innovation. Artists often deliberately choose limitations to push their creative boundaries and discover new ways of expression. For instance, some may restrict themselves to a limited palette of colors, forcing them to explore depth and emotion through hue and saturation variations alone. Likewise, the traditional Japanese hashira-e, which were prints on a narrow vertical woodblock, forced artists to focus on capturing the essence of their subjects in a dramatically constrained format. These self-imposed obstacles are seen as catalysts for growth, compelling artists to think differently and more deeply about their work, thus often leading to breakthroughs in style and technique that might not have emerged in a more permissive environment.
In exactly the same manner, an Energy Being deliberately chooses physical life, which is constrained by its very nature e.g. by laws of physics and biology. Furthermore, EBs may deliberately choose life circumstances that are usually seen as hardships and which usually evoke painful emotions. This is of course not out of masochism, but in order to provide oneself with repeated opportunities for selecting the path of light. Were the EB to remain in the SD in which everything is calm and joyous without any darkness, it would not have the opportunity to develop its ability to overcome obstacles and grow spiritually.
